About Us

The Gaston County Fitness and Nutrition Council (FNC) is as a project group of the Gaston Community Healthcare Commission (GCHC), a Healthy Carolinian Partnership. The GCHC, established in 1992 and now under the auspices of Gaston Together, provides a forum for meaningful discussion by those involved and interested in Gaston County healthcare issues.

The FNC was established in 1997 to decrease the incidence of overweight and rate of death from heart disease among Gaston County residents. To achieve this, the FNC works to increase awareness of existing opportunities and to create more opportunities for physical activity and healthy eating.

Staffed by the Gaston County Health Department, the mission of the Gaston County Fitness and Nutrition Council works to improve the health of Gaston County by providing residents with community resources and support to engage irregular physical activity and good nutritional practices.
